Preface
Parenting has become a complex process especially in the back drop of the jet speed with which the world is moving, the mounting pressures on the parents and children, widening generation gap and changed value system of people. Yet, parenting is a very important skill which the parents need to consciously learn and develop. The manner in which the middle aged parents of the present day were brought up by their parents may not be relevant and applicable for the way in which he/she needs to bring up his children of the present generation. The way of communicating with the children, relating to the children, understanding their aspirations, the discipline - freedom balance and moderating between the success and values of life becomes a physically difficult, mentally tiring, intellectually straining and emotionally draining exercise, if the parenting is not practiced diligently, carefully and tactfully.

Being a parent of two children and seeing around some parents who raise their children very nicely and effectively, and some other parents who have not been able to raise the children successfully, I kept on making a note of all the steps and processes involved in successful parenting. I studied the matter from the mental, intellectual, emotional, domestic and social dimensions and wanted to give to the people reasonably simple, effective and practical guidelines for effective parenting. This intention and effort has precipitated as this book.

As I went on to collect the information, study the matter and compile them in a structured manner with a natural flow of the issues! concerns, I thought it would be better to get the whole thing whetted by a person who has just crossed teenage. This helps me to understand the actual pleasures and pressures which they experience from the parents. Fortunately, I found Ms. Meghana Hanumesh who narrated the perceptions, the joys and the not -so-happy issues which the present day children go through in their various interactions and relationship with their parents. I amalgamated my own perceptions as a parent and the practical experiences of the present generation children as narrated by Ms. Meghana Hanumesh. My own thoughts, observations, conclusions and solutions were tweaked to include the issues narrated by Ms. Meghana.

And that's how the book has, in my opinion, come out, not as a sermon for parenting, but as a handbook of the actual expectations and experiences of the present day children.

I hope this book will provide new insights into the blissful yet complex process of parenting and provide some solutions for the uncomfortable and nagging problems a parent faces as he/she raises his/her children.

The text content of the book has been supplemented with relevant pictures and visuals to render it enjoyable to read and easy to understand. I have attempted to write the book in a simple and down-to-earth language in a reasonably well structured manner so that it serves as a Handbook and a Ready Reckoner for the parents.

I hope that this book, as in the case of my earlier books, will be well received and will be found quite useful by the parents and contribute in enhancing the quality of parenting.

I am indebted to my wife Rajani, my colleague Ms. Padma Hemanth and many others who have extended exemplary support and co-operation in bringing out this book. So far as Ms. Meghana Hanumesh is concerned, it is enough to say that, without her passionate and hard work, this book would not have found the light of the day. Such is the commitment and dedication she displayed at every stage of conceptualization, articulation, compilation and printing of this book. Thank you Meghana!
